Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisboa

The Instituto Superior Técnico (IST or Técnico) of the University of Lisbon offers a Master's programme in Environmental Engineering. Técnico participates in the project through the Environmental Sciences and Engineering Platform (IST-Ambiente), an interdepartmental structure that is actively involved in several international networks and programs.

IST-Ambiente is responsible, together with TU Dresden and UNESCO-IHE, for the Joint Master Programme in Groundwater and Global Change - Impacts and Adaptation (GroundwatCh), which has been in place since 2015. GroundwatCH seeks to offer a distinctive curriculum built on the cornerstones of hydro(geo)logy, climatology, impacts and adaptation, within a framework of human pressures, global change and feedback.

In 2020, a joint BSc Degree and a joint Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering involving three schools from the University of Lisbon (Técnico, the Faculty of Sciences and the Instituto Superior de Agronomia) and the University of Shanghai (China) was accredited by A3ES - Agência de Avaliação e Acreditação do Ensino Superior (Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education), a private law foundation created by the Portuguese Administration with the purpose of promoting and ensuring the quality of higher education. IST-Ambiente was the coordinator of this joint BSc and Master’s Degree proposal on behalf of Técnico.
